Katrin Caine

Soprano

Katrin Caine was born in Annaberg-Buchholz in Germany. After studying singing and music at the University of Music in her hometown, she worked for ten years teaching singers and choirs in the Grünwald School of Music, south of Munich.

Katrin Caine has written musical comedies, stories and songs for children. Two of her musical comedies have been published as books with accompanying CDs: Le Petit homme de l’autre Etoile and Les Trois petites Sorcières. She has organized several performances involving children and also worked for the Pedagogical Institute of Munich, training pre-school teachers. She also performed for ten years at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.

Katrin Caine has sung solo roles in numerous productions since her debut as Celia in the musical comedy The Promised Land for which she was also assistant producer.

She sang Adel in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, the sandman in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and has had several roles in The Magic Flute. She was Dao Yu in the first performances of Wang Ai Tien’s opera The Dream in the Red Pavillon. She interpreted the same role at the Festival Junger Künstlerde Bayreuth. She has also sung the solo parts in masses in European cathedrals such as those of Strasbourg, Prague and Munich. Her passion is to introduce others to classical music and opera. For this reason she enjoys working with children and amateur musicians as much as with professionals.

In the Opera Mauritius Festival 2009 Katrin Caine was in charge of the choirs and the artistic coordination for the production of The Pearl Fishers. For her this was an opportunity to contribute to the re-birth of opera in Mauritius, her adopted country.
